Economic Growth is the newest and oldest field of study in Economics, from Adam Smith to modern times.  Now the Kauffman Foundation is launching growthology.org to track key research and policy ideas that are accelerating economic growth and changing the world.  The primary authors of growthology.org are Bob Litan, Tim Kane, and Dane Stangler.

Robert Litan biography

Robert Litan is vice president of Research and Policy at the Kauffman Foundation. Litan has authored or co-authored more than 25 books and 200 articles for professional journals and magazines. He co-founded and serves as the Director of the AEI-Brookings Joint Center on Regulatory Studies. Litan has also had a distinguished career in public service. He served on the staff of the Council of Economic Advisers (1977-79), as Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the Antitrust Division of the Justice Department (1993-95), and Associate Director of the Office and Management and Budget (1995-96). Litan received his B.S. degree in Economics, graduating summa cum laude, from the Wharton School Department of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania; his J.D. from Yale Law School; and both a Master of Philosophy and Ph.D. in Economics from Yale University.

Tim Kane biography

Tim Kane is a Senior Fellow in Research and Policy at the Kauffman Foundation. He was the lead editor and author of the 2007 Index of Economic Freedom, co-published by The Wall Street Journal and the Heritage Foundation.  He has provided commentary for CBS, CNN, CNNfn, C-SPAN, FOX News, NBC, National Public Radio, Bloomberg TV and radio, and more. Kane has twice served as a senior economist at the Joint Economic Committee of the U.S. Congress, and also a professor of economics at Occidental College and San Diego State University. Kane is also a successful entrepreneur, having founded multiple software firms. Kane served as an intelligence officer in the U.S. Air Force, serving two tours of duty in Asia and one in the United States.  Kane graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1990.  He received a Master's and Ph.D. in economics from the University of California San Diego.

Dane Stangler biography

Dane Stangler has worked for more than four years as a Senior Analyst in the Office of the President of the Kauffman Foundation. In this capacity, Stangler provides research support and works closely with the President and others on speeches, articles, essays, and books. He also advises the President on matters relating to Foundation strategy and programming, and represents the Foundation at meetings and conferences around the country. His research areas include entrepreneurship and the nature of innovation, economic growth, cities, health care, and philanthropy. He is currently at work on a number of projects—including several essays and books—to be completed in the next year. Prior to joining the Foundation, Stangler did work for the Center for the Study of Social Policy in Washington, DC, and the Center for Family Policy and Practice in Madison, WI. He earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Truman State University, and a J.D. from the University of Wisconsin. His wife Katie works as a pediatric intensive care nurse at Children’s Mercy Hospital and they have two boys: Liam, 2, and Gavin, 1.
