This Seems Familiar . . .

Readers might recall that Scott Shane, professor of entrepreneurship, is now blogging at the New York Times. Scott has a good post up today calculating survival rates of new establishments from the Census Bureau's Business Dynamics Statistics that the Kauffman Foundation helps fund. He calculates that, through expansion and recession, roughly half of new businesses survive to age five.

It's an interesting and surprising statistic. Of course, I liked it better the first time when it was published in a Kauffman Foundation report. So much for original research and acknowledgement of the actual original calculation.
