Have you heard of the National Inventors Hall of Fame? I'm embarassed to say I had not before (hat tip) my colleague Thom Ruhe told me about it last week. He was at the 2008 awards ceremony, which he describes as "first class." The museum is located in Akron, Ohio -- but it is closed while a new section is under construction. Anyway, the online material is must-see.
This section caught my eye - an ad campaign to inspire invention among young children. Very cool:

Nice site. I hadn't heard of it either. The road to bring an invention to the masses is fraught with peril. Those with the desire and fortitude to take the journey is, in my opinion, what separates an inventor from an entrepreneur. It's nice to see recognition of innovation that has changed the world. There's a lot more coming down the pipe. How we react and adapt as a nation and a world will determine our future.

The comments seem to be talking all around the question but not addressing the heart of the entreprenurial debate. The issue should be: How to get state capital around the financial logjam and into the hands of the entrepreneur.
